This Week at 51 Main

Nota Bene: Quizz Night is taking a hiatus, but it will be back next Tuesday!

Tuesday, December 1, 8:00 – 10:00 pm

Music Compositions in Performance: Middlebury College students in Peter Hamlin’s music theory class will perform their original compositions.

Thursday, December 3, 9:00 pm – 12:00 am

Trusion Project: Middlebury College’s own experimental jazz group with sax, keyboard, guitar and drums and several other “visiting musicians” have captured their audiences for the past year. They are the most popular jazz musicians to have emerged from the College. Always a treat in the music scene at 51 Main at the Bridge.

Friday, December 4, 9:00 pm – 12:00 am

Lovewhip: “What is Lovewhip about? Love. Whips. Dancing. And we’ll throw sex in there, too, just in case it wasn’t implied by the love and whips. They’ve been called Boston’s greatest electro band, and it’s obvious why. They’re a mash up of all the world’s most danceable music, from electro to Afro-beat, to reggaeton and post-punk; their rhythms are deep and inescapable, and their lead singer is hot. It’s a hell of an experience to see them live. They don’t really leave any choice−you’re going to dance, and you’re going to like it.” -The Weekly Dig

Saturday, December 5, 9:00 pm – 12:00 am

Rempis/Rosally: Saxophone jazz.  Saxophonist Dave Rempis and drummer Frank Rosaly have performed and recorded together in countless projects since Rosaly arrived on the Chicago scene in 2001, including the Thread Quintet, the Ingebrigt Håker-Flaten Quintet, The Outskirts, and The Rempis Percussion Quartet. Both musicians have established themselves as prominent players in the active milieu of the Chicago jazz scene, and spend as much time on the road in North America and Europe as they do at home. The duo has been active since 2004, and focuses on the process of free-improvisation. Their long-standing musical relationship in so many different contexts provides them the ability to navigate a broad sonic palette, and to continually push each other away from their individual comfort zones. While both musicians are comfortable in the more abstract sonic spaces pioneered by European improvisers, neither one shies away from hard-hitting grooves or melodies. Having allowed this relationship to develop gradually over the years, their first cd is scheduled for release on 482 Music in the fall of 2009.
