Art @ 51 Main

Film artist Emily Hubley will be shown at 51 Main from Oct. 6th to October 31st.  On Saturday, October 24th from 5 to 7, 51 Main will host a reception to celebrate the 3pm and 8pm screenings of Hubley’s first feature film, THE TOE TACTIC and two of her short films: Pigeon Within and Set Set Spike, at Middlebury College’s Dana Auditorium. Ms Hubley will attend the 8pm screening and discuss her work afterward.

THE TOE TACTIC had its theatrical premiere in January 2009 at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and has been released on DVD by Kino International.  With THE TOE TACTIC, Hubley continues to layer human truths, working with live elements to depict a reality that is at once subjective, honest and unique.

Ms. Hubley created the animated sequences for John Cameron Mitchell’s HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH and numerous documentaries including Judith Helfand’s BLUE VINYL (2001) and William Kunstler: Disturbing the Universe by Emily Kunstler and Sarah Kunstler. A daughter of pioneer animators Faith and John Hubley, Ms. Hubley worked on Faith Hubley’s films at The Hubley Studio, Inc. from 1977 to 2001.

DVDs of THE TOE TACTIC and Hubley’s compiled shorts will be available for purchase at the reception and after the 8pm screening. Both screenings are free and the public is invited.  Dana Auditorium is located at 356 College Street. Dana is located on the North side of College Street (also known as Route 125 West), in the Sunderland Language Center building.

The original, signed frames exhibited during the month of October at 51 Main are from Hubley’s films created between 1995 and 2008. For purchase information, please contact Hope Tucker at htucker[at]middlebury.edu or Emily Hubley at emily.hubley[at]gmail.com
